Hobbit home

My first painting from the studio.

I love the hobbit and wanted to paint something from that.

Although I painted it here. I was getting advice from my teacher and fellow student. In class we bounce ideas off one another. Here it’s just me. So I send a photo to them and they help me with ideas and techniques

Everytime I think I’m done I spot something else I don’t quite like and then change it.

That’s the danger of having it right here. You can’t just walk away.

But you have to eventually say it’s done.

Me posting it here says it’s done to me. And that I need to walk away happy

Now I’m ready to start a new project.

I hope you like this.

Two for one

it’s been a while since I posted a pic on here.

That’s because we have started painting more than one picture

At a time

This gives the paintings time to dry between the layers, without

Having to just stand around and chatting lol

The first picture is a composite of two I found on the web.

I loved the rock wall but it didn’t have anything above it.

So I found a picture of trees in the mist and incorporated it

Into my painting

Not too sure the trees worked, the lighter ones are supposed to look like their further away

And seen through the fog.

But I am happy about the way the rock wall turned out. I know the steps aren’t  quite right.

But I worked on them so much that in the end I thought. Well that’s as good as it’s going to get

You have to know when to just walk way I say.

The second picture I painted was of the dawn treader from the Narnia books.

It’s the picture of the ship in stormy water

The front of the boat is supposed to look like a dragon

Honestly it’s the best I could do. And it looks much better than it did last week

These two were painted in class.

I have two going in the new studio.

One is coming along nicely, while the other is doing my head in.

But I’m using these to experiment with different techniques and I’m learning lots.

If all else fails. I can just paint over it and start again.

Plenty of the masters have done that over the centuries

Who knows. Maybe that’s what it takes to become one.

Either way. I’m having fun. And that’s all that counts

Monochrome

There is a bit of a back story to this one

We went out to dinner with some friends a few months ago. To a local restaurant. In that restaurant they have quite a few paintings my lovely talented teacher had painted. They were up for sale

There was one huge painting that was monochrome, and my friend loved it.

So I sent. Message to Judie and asked if she could paint it for my friend.

She replied. No. You can.

My friend also agreed.

So here it is

I send my friend a photo of it and told her if she didn’t like it she didn’t have to take it.

But she assured me. She loved it.

Once it’s dry and varnished I will gift it to her.

Who know. Maybe someone will see it and i get a commission lol

Either way. I  happy with it. I enjoyed just using the two colours.

Maybe I’ll do another monochrome one day. We shall see.

Sunset

I know it’s been a while. Between Christmas break and someone having things on, this has taken a while to do

Not that I’m complaining. I think it helped me. I was able to study the photos I take at the end of the lesson

Then when I get back I know exactly what I’m doing.

It’s made me a much more relaxed student

I hope you like it

Trixie

I decided to really get out of my comfort zone
And paint Trixie

She’s not too bad. Ok for a first try I think

There is an app that changes you photos in lots of different ways.

This was the inspiration

I know it’s far from perfect but I’m happy with it
At least it looks like a dog, I hope

Stockdale sunset

After having a big break from art, I decided on something simple

I took this picture at our farm.

Waited for the perfect light and mix of colours

I think it turned out ok.
